Our approach

We start with evidence. Not a sales pitch.

Most energy providers ask you to trust a promise. We begin by showing you the numbers. Our Energy & Carbon Optimisation Review finds what you are overpaying, quantifies what you could save, and gives you a clear plan you can act on. But the review is only the starting point - what follows is a long-term partnership that keeps optimising your energy and carbon position year after year.

What it is

An evidence-led review,
not a generic audit.

Our Energy & Carbon Optimisation Review - we call it the ECOR - is a free, structured review that examines the parts of your energy and utility spend that usually go unchecked. Not just the unit rate, but the layers underneath it: billing errors, non-commodity charges, distribution and transmission costs, the Climate Change Levy, water, and your compliance position.

It is built on your published and actual data - SECR filings, ESOS status, consumption, contracts and spend - so what you get back is a relevant, sector-specific picture, not a generic checklist.

The review is the beginning, not the end. It gives you a verified baseline and a costed plan. What you do next is your decision - whether that is recovering overcharges, restructuring procurement, or handing the ongoing management to us.

What the review examines

  • ✓ Billing errors and historic overcharges
  • ✓ Non-commodity charges (DUoS, TNUoS, levies)
  • ✓ Climate Change Levy exposure
  • ✓ Water and wastewater costs
  • ✓ Meter, consumption and half-hourly data
  • ✓ Contract structure and procurement position
  • ✓ Carbon baseline and compliance obligations
The journey

From first look to long-term partner.

Every engagement follows the same clear path. You always know what stage you are at, what happens next, and what decision sits in front of you.

/01Open

Benchmark & qualify

We use your published data and sector signals to offer a relevant comparison - how your reported performance sits against a defensible peer range. A specific hypothesis, not a generic audit.

/02Prove

Run the review

A structured, time-bound review. We secure the data authority, then validate your bills, meters, consumption, carbon, contracts and recovery opportunities against the evidence.

/03Design

Present the case

We show the gap between assumed and evidenced performance, and agree a practical 90-day plan and management model. Clear on what we would do, and how it models out.

/04Grow

Framework & grow

A transparent framework agreement with clear fees, service levels, quarterly value reporting and annual rebenchmarking. Value you can see, measured over time.

Constructive tension comes from evidence, never manufactured doubt. The point of the review is that you leave clearer than you arrived - never pressured.
Why ECOR is different

Anyone can run a review. Few stay for what comes after.

Plenty of providers will audit your energy and hand you a report. What sets ECOR apart is what happens next - we build a long-term optimisation framework around your business and keep improving it, year after year.

/01Not a report

A framework, not a document

A one-off review gives you a snapshot that dates the moment it lands. We give you a living framework - managed delivery, named owners and a plan that adapts as your business and the market move.

/02Measured

Value you can see over time

We track the value we deliver quarterly and rebenchmark against your peers every year. You always know what we have saved you and where the next opportunity sits - not just what we promised at the start.

/03A partner

One team across everything

Procurement, recovery, compliance, carbon and consumption - handled by one team that already holds your data. The longer we work together, the more we find, because the picture only gets clearer.

The review rhythm

The review runs to a clear, structured rhythm.

A focused, time-bound review - usually completed within around eight weeks - that delivers credible findings, a predictable timeline, and an outcome you can take straight to your board. It is the start of a much longer relationship, not a one-off report.

Intake
Phase 1 / Scope

Confirm the ground truth

Objectives, data authority, bills, meters, contracts, carbon boundary and data quality confirmed.

Diagnose
Phase 2 / Test

Interrogate the data

Billing, recovery, half-hourly patterns, water, compliance, procurement and operational waste all reviewed.

Model
Phase 3 / Value

Quantify the value

Refunds, annual saving, kWh, tonnes CO₂e, risk, investment, funding and priority - all modelled.

Decide
Phase 4 / Act

Board-ready findings

A clear findings pack, a solution-design session and a costed 30/60/90-day roadmap.

The review is the beginning, not the end

You finish the review with a verified baseline, quantified opportunities, named owners and a clear framework proposal. From there, the partnership begins - we manage delivery, track value quarterly, and rebenchmark every year, so your energy and carbon position keeps improving long after the review is done.

A worked example
A real client engagement, shown anonymously

How it played out for a multi-site food and drink business.

01
Benchmark & qualify

A sector comparison, not a cold call

A multi-site food and drink business with 15 sites and around £3.5m annual energy spend. Using their SECR filings and consumption profile, we offered a comparison against a defensible peer range - and flagged where their reported intensity suggested drivers worth testing.

02
Run the review

The evidence we found

We secured the data authority and worked through the bills, meters, half-hourly data, water and contracts. The review surfaced historic billing errors, avoidable non-commodity charges and a procurement structure that no longer fit their consumption pattern.

03
Present the case

The gap, and the plan to close it

At the findings meeting we showed the difference between their assumed position and the evidenced one - the value at risk, and the cost of doing nothing. We agreed a 90-day plan covering recovery, procurement and a carbon baseline.

04
Framework & grow

From project to partnership

The value the review identified made the case for moving into a longer-term partnership. They moved to a framework agreement with quarterly value reporting through elexi, and we now manage their procurement, bureau and carbon reporting - rebenchmarked each year.

Our principle
The review creates urgency through evidence - never manufactured doubt. You should leave the conversation clearer, not pressured.
