We were instructed to investigate the water charges across three sites for Simpsons Skoda.

A site survey was conducted to ascertain where the surface water from site discharged to. All downpipes from the building, which were external were tested using a mixture of acoustic & dye testing. All gullies and drains within the customer car park and other hardstanding areas were also tested using the same methods.

Eventually they merged to a surface water manhole which was then traced to a private surface water line which discharged into a local watercourse. It was proven that none of the surface water at site entered the water network infrastructure and therefore should not be charged.

All information, including photos, drainage plans and site drawings were submitted to the retailer asking them to remove the surface water charges, both ongoing & historically. The water company agreed with our findings and we achieved a refund for the client of £15,000 and ongoing savings of £2,537 per year.
